چکیده
Following the discovery of polyphagous shot hole borer Euwallacea fornicatus (Eichhoff) in Western Australia September 2021, we estimated likely economic damage that will result coming decades and return on investment eradication. A bioeconomic model was used to simulate insect's spread impact based additional urban commercial tree management costs. Two scenarios were examined, one which an eradication policy response initiated, it not. With no response, results indicated median costs would reach A$6.8 million per annum 30 years, with 98% these relating forests. We conclude funding currently proposed, involving A$45.0 over 3 not generate sufficient benefits offset short-term, but may produce net longer term.

A Coffee Berry Borer (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) Bibliography
Native to Africa, the coffee berry borer, Hypothenemus hampei (Ferrari) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae), has gradually invaded most coffee-growing areas worldwide. Adult females colonize the coffee berry and oviposit within galleries in the coffee seeds. Larvae and adults consume the seeds, resulting in drastic reductions in yields and quality, negatively affecting the income of approxi...
متن کاملA Potential Repellent Against the Coffee Berry Borer (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae)
The coffee berry borer, Hypothenemus hampei (Ferrari), continues to pose a formidable challenge to coffee growers worldwide. Because of the cryptic life habit of the insect inside coffee berries, effective pest management strategies have been difficult to develop. A sesquiterpene, (E,E)-α-farnesene, produced by infested coffee berries has been identified as a potential repellent against the cof...
متن کاملTaxonomic changes in palaeotropical Xyleborini (Coleoptera, Curculionidae, Scolytinae)
Following the recent reclassification of the Palaeotropic xyleborine genera (Hulcr and Cognato in press), additional species are transferred to correct genera or synonymized based on analysis of their morphological characters. The following species are given new combinations: Debus amphicranoides (Hagedorn), comb. n., Debus birmanus (Eggers, 1930), comb. n., Debus dolosus (Blandford, 1896), com...
متن کاملA taxonomic monograph of Nearctic Scolytus Geoffroy (Coleoptera, Curculionidae, Scolytinae)
The Nearctic bark beetle genus Scolytus Geoffroy was revised based in part on a molecular and morphological phylogeny. Monophyly of the native species was tested using mitochondrial (COI) and nuclear (28S, CAD, ArgK) genes and 43 morphological characters in parsimony and Bayesian phylogenetic analyses. Parsimony analyses of molecular and combined datasets provided mixed results while Bayesian a...
متن کاملQuercivorol as a lure for the polyphagous and Kuroshio shot hole borers, Euwallacea spp. nr. fornicatus (Coleoptera: Scolytinae), vectors of Fusarium dieback
The polyphagous shot hole borer and Kuroshio shot hole borer, two members of the Euwallacea fornicatus species complex (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae), are invasive ambrosia beetles that harbor distinct species of Fusarium fungal symbionts. Together with the damage caused by gallery construction, these two phytopathogenic Fusarium species are responsible for the emerging tree disease Fu...
